Taken from the monastery of San Engracia, in Zaragoza, 8 February 1809

The siege of Zaragoza was one of the hardest fights of the Spanish war, when the French had to take the city street by street, house by house, from a very determined populace. This urban guerrilla warfare was depicted by Lejeune, who witnessed it, in the cloister of the convent of San Engracia, which joined the ramparts of the city.
