After saying goodbye to his followers in the courtyard of the White Horse, and having embraced the flag of the 1st regiment of the Imperial Guard, Napoleon was cheered. This iconic representtation of the imperial legend was created in 1825 by Vernet for a former officer of the Grande Armée, and then widely distributed as an engraving.
