The bivouac of Wagram, on the night of the 5th to the 6th of July 1809

After reshuffling his plans to attack at the end of a first day of fighting against the Austrians, Napoleon took a little rest at the bivouac. In the background, Marshal Berthier, Chief of Staff of the Grande Armée, transcribed his orders for the following day. The painting is a famous image of the imperial legend, commissioned by the subject himself.
